About the Artist
After studying at San Francisco State University, Nancy got a BA in Studio Art at Sonoma State University, in 2007.
She mostly does drawings and watercolors, sometimes with mixed media elements, but she also paints in oils. She uses color and networks of intertwined lines to create worlds that simultaneously evoke images from both ends of the scale spectrum—organic structures at the cellular level, gas clouds in the vastness of intergalactic space.
On display here on The Art Wall at Shige Sushi is a selection of her drawings and mixed media pieces. Her work has been exhibited throughout Sonoma County and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Artist's statement
I was born and raised in the Bay Area by two sets of families. My creative expression and connection to art began very early in life.
Influenced by the challenges of questions without reasonable answers—or any answers—my art became (and continues to be) a release, a response to specific times and specific moments.
I am intrigued by color, layers of light, texture, and the depth that I can create with the slight touch of a brush or with the weight of a pen or a pencil as it reacts to paper or some other enticing surface.
The process of creating my abstracts is exciting and challenging for me as I push myself to the edge, finding new ground and new forms. Many stories can be discovered in my art. My work is brought to life by the rich imaginations of the people who view it and by the connections it allows them to make.
