Artist's statement
The work in this show is expressive of my love of materials and relationships of harmony and beauty. I often use materials not usually thought of as artist's materials as they satisfy my desire to work with discarded materials, to avoid adding more things to the landfill. Sometimes those materials become humorous and even a bit disturbing when used together.
In the “Hybrids” series, I work mostly with geometric forms. These forms become fused into networks of color, line, pattern, and intersections. They are built up layer upon layer, like an archaeological dig in reverse, using a variety of techniques: printmaking (monotype, trace monotype, silk-screen, collagraph), collages of fabrics and papers, and direct drawing and painting.
