Claude Smith

Artist website

Claude Smith has been a working artist for over 50 years.  Born and raised in New York City, he earned a B.F.A. from Pratt Institute, and has had gallery exhibits internationally. He moved to Sonoma county in 1980.

His "art as a way of life" springs from the careful observation of nature, and favors the (creative) process over product. Smith's work is most closely aligned with music, and Taoist philosophy.  He maintains a studio at Atelier One in Graton, and walks the path of obscurity—or so he says, modestly.

The pieces in The Art of Collage are part of a large series called, "G-spot variations", and are a combination of monoprinting, drawing and collage. They were executed while Smith was an artist-in-residence at KALA Institute, in Berkeley Ca.  This series has previously been exhibited in several prominent Bay area galleries and at the Sonoma Museum of Visual Art.
